Christmas

Here’s part of a poem (and hymn) which I quite like, ‘Christmas Bells’. The full text is here (link). It reminds me of the importance and reality of justice in our messed up world, and the profundity of grounding this in an immanent, relational, and revelatory God:

And in despair I bowed my head;
“There is no peace on earth,” I said;
“For hate is strong,
And mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good-will to men!”

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
“God is not dead, nor doth He sleep;
The Wrong shall fail,
The Right prevail,
With peace on the earth, good-will to men.”

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
